NAVARATRI AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Navaratri or Nine Nights is a nine day South Asian festival dedicated to feminine aspect of divine.This Year Navaratri begins on Oct 7 and ends on Oct 15. 

Navaratri is about the nine day battle between the Supreme Truth manifested as  Goddess Durga and Demon Mahisha . The Mahisha represents the patriarchy and male dominance. The fight against Mahisha represents the fight against gender discrimination and  exploitation of women  and inspires the subjugated women to fight relentlessly against injustice , humiliation and gender discrimination.We see that Durga is also becomes an object of lust , her " No " to Mahisha's proposal was dismissed by Mahisha. Because he can't tolerate an independent woman. 

The festival Navaratri reminds us that harassment and discrimination against women must be stopped and women have same rights , power and opportunities as men. Navaratri is also women's right to choose I.e women should have the right to choose what they do with their bodies, careers and lives whether in America or in Afganistan or in Middle East or in South Asia or in any part of world. Let us hope that the Supreme Truth  in the form of Durga hidden in every girl and woman  may destroy the ideologies that propagates the subjugation and enslavement of women in our world.
